Leaving AuburnFest this afternoon, we filled up in downtown Auburn at $2.48 for regular.  It's coming on down.

General Discussion / Re: sinus problems
« on: October 16, 2008, 06:59:49 pm »
Sniffing a teaspoon of a warm salt solution has long been known to benefit some sinus problems.  The mix is about 1 teaspoon salt dissolved in a warm glass of water.  On the other hand, if you've got yellow or green discharge, you need an antibiotic.

Untreated sinus infections can cause hearing and dental problems.

Scott, just a personal opinion.  The 2.8 is a little difficult to find, and the cost for a rebuilt one is about the same as for a 93-95 3.4.  All the parts from your old 2.8 will go onto the 3.4 and it's a free 20 HP for the same money.  I'm thinking Don might have or know of a good 2.8, though.

If you decide to go with a rebuilt, we bought one from Groomes in Nashville for about $1700, with no core charge.  They warrant it for 18 months in a Fiero.  Same engines that Ed Parks uses for his 3.4 conversions.  Jasper is higher and won't warrant it for a Fiero.  GM is almost double, but won't warrant it for a Fiero.

The first one that shows up for me is the Burgundy one.  But I'll bet you're talking about FieroChild's Lambogreenie.  That car was supposed to match the AllState Battery green, but the colors on the Nascar racecar poster was incorrect.  The following year after it was painted, Lamborghini came out with that color, hence the name "Lamborgreenie" or sometimes called Kermit.

October is going to be a fun month.  Auburnfest on the 18th, the Blue Ridge Parkway Cruise on the 25th, and a rerun of RFTH 13 on Nov. 1.

Ray and I will be going, and Don Hulse said he'd be interested in taking his wife along on this one, since it's a cruise and not a run.  October is a fine month for Fiero'ing since it's usually a very dry month, as if we didn't already have enough of those.

Expert Tech Advice / Re: Bad Alternator? Don't be so quick to replace it.
« on: October 01, 2008, 10:34:41 pm »
It is my understanding that 88 cars with the CS alternator do not have this problem.

I don't know.  Maybe someone else can verify that.  The young lady just said that the bulletin applied to all Fieros.  Is the CS alternator adaptable to the earlier models, or is the whole wiring schematic different for the 88 charging circuit?

Expert Tech Advice / Bad Alternator? Don't be so quick to replace it.
« on: October 01, 2008, 04:54:20 pm »
When my Brother's alternator failed on his 86GT, I promptly called the auto parts to order a replacement.  The young woman who answered the phone and took the order told me that there was a Technical Data Bulletin on all Fieros regarding the alternator charging circuit.

She warned that she didn't want to sell me an alternator because once installed, she couldn't take it back.  She said that the technical bulletin advised that on all Fieros, the charging circuit runs through the battery light bulb on the instrument panel.  On all cars with the auxilliary voltage/oil gauge pod atop the front center console, it's inside the voltage meter just above the battery symbol.  When the ignition is turned to the "ON" position without starting the car, the bulb should light up showing "VOLTS".

On all others without the auxilliary gauge pod, it's in the speedometer/tachometer pod.  When the ignition is turned to the "ON" position without starting the car, the bulb should light up showing "BAT" and a battery symbol.

If you have power in your battery and these indicators do not light up, try replacing the bulb first before replacing the alternator.  It could save you some bucks, and in the case of an automatic V6, a whole heap of time.  If the bulb is blown, it will not charge.  Even with a good alternator.

Ray and I went to the club meeting, and Ingles was $4.51 when we came back.  I stopped and got gas in the Fiero cause I gotta go to Douglasville tomorrow and there was a guy there with a big Ford truck, and his bed was full of every kind of container you can think of, and he was filling them all up.  I heard him come to the window and complain that the pump shut down.  The attendant told him they automatically shut off at $100 and that he'd have to turn the pump off then put his card in again and start all over.  Hoarding like that is what causes the shortage.  All the QT stations out here are shut down, as well as the Citgo.  Ingles, Shell, Exxon and BP are still in business and pumping.

30 minutes after we got gas at Ingles, Ray called and said they'd already dropped it to $4.41.

Yeah, I got hit on all my addresses, too.  If you will  go to www.majorgeeks.com you can find all sorts of free downloads.

I have one program that might let spam through, but once I tell it that it's spam, I never get anything from that address again.  All the protection I run on my computer comes from Major Geeks, and it's free.  Check it out.

My Brother came home just a few minutes ago and he said that QT's and many other stations have already shut down.  Here in town, Ingles is still holding at $4.50+ while Exxon is still under $4.00
