All OK in Atlanta?

It's probably not that rare to get flurries or a dusting of snow in the upper elevations around Blairsville or Hiawassee and into the Clayton or the Rabun Gap area.  I couldn't find a list of April snow events in Georgia.

I found several videos and postings about flurries in April, but in a history listing, there was none in April, going all the way back to 2008, but they only list measurable amounts, not flurries.  There was a surprising number of tornadoes, though.

It's tornado season.  Since people aren't responsible enough to trim their trees, it's also power outage season.

I'm almost 60. I remember it happening exactly once.

Although we had, I believe, the worst blizzard in Atlanta history (1993) in March.

Different subject, just thinking of firsts.  A bridge here was blocked off to be rebuilt.  The next day, it fell down, blocking a bunch of train tracks.  Those tracks weren't supposed to be affected.  This happened 10 or so years ago.  The brilliant people who designed the new bridge installed very expensive decorative lights, because they wanted their bridge to stand out beautifully from other bridges.  Unfortunately, the lights were no brighter than the designers.  The city had to install regular street lights.  Due to a budget shortage and a further lack of thought/planning, not enough street lights were installed.  To rectify this and prove that they hadn't learned from past mistakes, every other original decorative light was removed, and brighter, non-matching decorative lights were installed, giving the bridge 3 sets of non-matching, inadequate lights, often blocking each other.  Locally, this bridge became known as ”the bridge of too many lights”.  The electric bill was tremendous, and bulbs on the decorative lights had to be replaced at least monthly.  So, to further compound their mess, the city decided to eliminate some lights.  They did this by breaking (glass and all) lights.  No cleanup was done, leaving glass all over the street and sidewalk.  Vandals then came and stole the decorative fixtures.

Tofurther prove that they don't learn, the city hired the same company to rebuild a nearby bridge.  Guess which lights they're going to use?

As I think of it, the bridge named to memorialize our election of a dead man as governor took at least 3 years to complete.  That bridge wasn't too bad.  Different city, though.

I'm thinking that you were alluding to our I-85 bridge collapse, when you mentioned yours.

Some of the wags are calling this "The General William T. Sherman Memorial Overpass". Seems appropriate, somehow.

Yes.  I'm just amazed at how much faster bridges can be built there.

Money is a hell of an incentive.
The Georgia DOT is adopting a "cost is no object" policy, in order to get the bridge fixed. In addition, they are offering a performance bonus for every day that the goal is "beat". People will be working 24 hours, 7 days a week, in order to finish this. All the workers are going to jump on the available overtime.

This is the same company (CW Matthews) who was contracted to resurface I-20, from the western 'burbs to downtown. (Probably other places, too.)
They actually did quite a good job. As messy as it could have gotten, the impact to traffic was... I won't say "minimal", but it wasn't nearly as ugly as I expected.
The only real problems I saw were created by dickhead (sorry... no other term suffices) drivers who had to be the self-appointed guardians of the "sacred travel lanes", and didn't want anyone to pass them, and conversely, the ones who wanted to pass *everybody*. Fortunately, both were few and far between.

Well, just so Georgia and the rest of the East coast doesn't feel left out, apparently the "snow bomb" will visit.  You can share in the fluffy white and cold.  Or, it may miss you entirely.

The current storm is going well south of us.  Tallahassee got some, and just a moment ago they showed an area near Savannah and it looked like 4 or 5 inches already on the ground and it was snowing hard.  Some of it might make it up to f85gtron and pgackerman, but it's mostly following the I-95 corridor.  I think he said we might see a little wintry stuff in the Atlanta area about Monday.  Wind chill -5 to -10 tonight within 50 miles of here.

Yup. There's snow on the beach at Tybee Island.
Last time they had any significant snow was 1989.
I talked with one of our techs in Savannah, earlier today. He said they were expecting 3-5". State Patrol had the bridges closed. (If you've ever been to Savannah, you understand that it's comprised mostly of islands. You aren't going much of anywhere without crossing a bridge. So, yeah...)

Well, the Missouri River is frozen across.  I wouldn't drive on it, especially after the 25F heat wave, the last 2 days.  My washer fluid is frozen solid.

Well, Floridians got to share in global warming.  I heard that there are snowfall and temperature records being set.

 I spoke with Jeremy in Jacksonville this morning about 8 am , he said it was 34 degrees and raining then, so I suppose that from just north of there up is getting snow. It was sunny and COLD at 4 PM that's when I came out from under the House Fixing busted pipes. also while takin' a break I put in a New Wick on one of the Kerosene heaters, So cold wet and stinking of fuel, now just waiting for the water to heat up to shower.
