I pulled this 2001 3800 SC out today.

And Monday I'm going to istall this 1997 3800 SC back in the 2001.

Why? Because he wants to sell the car back to the dealership and they said they'd give him more with a stock engine. The engine I'm pulling out has 340hp where the one I'm putting back in only has 240hp.

I found out yesterday that the only 3800 SC's that you want to go in a Fiero is from 97 up and that you need the computer out of a 98 and up. They say you can't reprogram the 97 and down computers.

The one with 340hp is going into Derek's 88 Formula. That's going to be our first true 3800 SC swap into a Fiero and it's an automatic. I'm starting on it next week hopefully.

I had a friend who had Loyde Rascoe install a 3800SC in an 88GT with a manual.  On his way through Atlanta, he stopped to let me drive it.  I can say that I saw 90 in 3rd gear.  With the 4T sereies trannies, you can expect to get mileage equal to what you're getting on your 2.8 at highway speeds.  Some have even said they get better MPG.  I've even read that many people are getting 30+ with 4.9's.

The very popular 4.9 V8 is getting scarce, especially for a good low mileage engine.  The 3800's are still plentiful, and probably at a lower cost.  Though it's just my personal choice, if I ever did an exotic transplant, it'd probably be a 3800 NA since they're much cheaper, less likely to have been abused, they produce as much or more HP than the 4.9, there are a few go-fast goodies out there, and they run on regular grade fuel.

There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Where were you at yesterday? You should have come up and picked one out. They're all gone now.

Did you get any snow down there? Me and Julio went 4 wheeling in my 85 yesterday and had a pretty good time. When the roads turned completely white with snow he put his seatbelt on. We were running 55 and 60 mph when Glen called and said he was bring a car to the shop on a hook for a timing belt. So we turned around and went back to the shop. The 85 never did slide except when I pulled out from a stop and got on it a little. Now if we were in the 86 GT, we would have been running 5 and 10 mph.

Hey, Derek and John are coming down to the shop today incase anybody wants to ask them some more questions about the 3800 SC swaps. John is the one that's retuning the engines computer to run at peak performance in the Fiero's.
