Handling tests

The Fall color tour was just a cruise.  At no point could I classify anything we did during the tour as pushing the handling.  That having been said, we did take some turns.  During the tour, I never felt the any bottoming out, but again, there was not really any occasion for such.

I'm tempted to put something on the control arms to see how close things get.  Any good way to do this?

As long as you don't bottom our you're good.  You don't need to know how close.  Just put some white lithium grease on the top of the bump stop, do a little spirited driving, then check to see if any of it transferred.

There are no bump stops.

Some people have put zip ties on the shock pistons to see how close they come to bottoming out.  With no bumpstops, that might be an opltion.

How does that work?

Tighten it up around the piston rod as tight as you can get and make sure it's against the cartridge.  As the shock compresses it will push the zip tie.  That will tell you how close to bottoming out you come.
