Double DIN radio
« on: December 05, 2020, 06:43:32 pm »
I remember reading I think that  Raydar had purchased a 3d printed double din radio surround but I can’t find the post. Was it you and, if so, did you get a chance to install it yet? That has been something I have wanted to do for a while and since mechanically my GT seems to be doing well I am ready to do some “fun” modifications.

Ralph this is the one I saw on Esty for $70.00 shipped. Not sure if it is the same one you have. May I ask why you are not going to use yours? What do you think about the one you have? Does it look like it would be a "plug and play" install?

Same one. I decided to go with a more classic look. I found a cool single din retro gold radio. It’s only FM and Bluetooth.  Quality of the kit seems good. Not sure about the install as I didn’t even try. If I ever get to the GT I may go that route but till then it will collect dust and likely get broken and or lost.

It would seem that getting to the HVAC controls would be difficult, with this setup.

For sure with the tray.  For Fieros with only buttons (no slider), I imagine it would be difficult, anyway.

Reminds me. How did you mount your tray? I was going to use double sided tape but then thinking a few black screws. 🤷🏻‍♂️

You just set the tray in place.  I drove the entire Fall tour, with the tray just sitting there.  Just remember the ice skating rule: head up, [wheels] down.   ;)

The front of the tray fits over the side edges of the HVAC surround.  The back fits over the front of the shift surround.  The bottom sets on the base of the HVAC surround.

I did buy the kit. Just waiting for the opportunity to install it.
My existing garage is piled high with boxes, hardware, and fixtures. There's nowhere to work, comfortably, and it's too "mizzable" to work outside, if I don't have to.
They have finally set the poles for my shop, but I will be fortunate if it's completed by the end of the year (unless they surprise me.)

Edit - I have the tray in both of my cars. It just sits there. Not fastened in. It even holds my phone in place.
