Wanted: Lug nut covers
« on: September 15, 2022, 03:50:03 pm »

Anyone have 20 lug nut covers for a cheap price they can bring to RFTH?

I'm looking for the blackish plastic covers that go over the actual lug nuts.

I have a large coffee can and a half gallon baggie full of covers.  Remind me about next Wednesday.

I just got the baggie full and will put it into the car in the morning.  There's probably 50 or more in it.

I have some chrome ones if you want a fancier look.

Thanks for the offer.  I'm planning on painting them to go with my gold rims so chrome might not be the best choice.

I believe they're made of polyethylene. You might have fun getting paint to adhere.

I believe you're correct.  I'll need a few extra until I come up with something that lasts.  Or at least something that lasts long enough to make me happy.

I have used flexible bumper spray for freshening them up.  Lasts a considerably long time, and can be reapplied when needed.  Send Toni out to do some girly shopping and wash them good in the dishwasher before spraying.

This link lists some aerosols for that purpose.  Another suggests using a primer or prep like what's shown in the images I see.

Hadn't considered using the dishwasher yet.   ;D

I did a test yesterday using Dawn and an old toothbrush.   Rinsed in hot water and sun dried.  Sprayed them with bumper cover spray and they look like new ones.

Finally painted a set of covers to match my car, put them on, and decided they look tacky.  Something like what a kid would do to jazz up their vehicle.

Sounded like a good idea.
