Just got in about 45 minutes ago. It started light snow flurries when Robbie was taking the above pictures. We had a little tech and bull session then Kevin, Dewey and I headed back home. Dewey left us in Chatsworth and continued down US 441 and Kevin and I headed up over Fort Mountain. Now, mind you, as we drove from Athens to Chatsworth the snow was getting a little harder.
I think we made it up the mountain to the first curve when the roadway turned white. A few more turns and I was down to 3rd gear and +- ~ 30 mph and the bobbles were getting more frequent. We made it over the mountain without incident and down the other side, but we were still running 20-30 all the way.
We were maybe halfway between the mountain and Ellijay, still in 3rd, going up a hill and the car broke loose. It went all the way
around to the left and off into the right ditch just past a driveway. It was about to take off the nose on the embankment until the front wheel caught traction on the dirt and it flipped the rear around parallel to the bank and I rolled uphill into the ditch.
Put it in reverse and backed away from the driveway, uphill, too. Heck, I should have stayed in the ditch. I had much better traction than on the pavement. Anyway, once I got far enough away from the driveway, I put her in low, drove right out, turned around in the said driveway and drove up the hill in low gear.
I-575 in Ellijay northbound was closed due to an accident on the bridge that crosses over the river and Hwy 52. Bad driving all the way to the town square in Dawsonville, then there was nothing South of there. After we crossed Ga. 400, it was back up to speed.
